The qualm
Digital grain sits on top of the image. Film grain lives inside it.
Grain presets apply a static texture over the frame. They do not respond to image luminance, saturation, or local contrast. Film grain modulates with the image. It is heavier in the shadows, finer in the highlights, and it breathes with the frame.
FUZZ_ computes texture from the image data, not over it. Each layer is luminance-aware. Stack them and the result reads as photochemical, not processed.

Halation
Red/orange bloom behind specular highlights. Light scattering back through film base.
Softening
Soft highlight diffusion with controllable radius and blend.
Gate Weave
Subtle frame instability that mimics projector gate float.
Vignette
Optical lens falloff. Modelled from real lens light falloff curves.
Breathing
Organic frame-scale fluctuation. Mechanical breathing of film cameras.
Flicker
Per-frame luminance variation. Practical tungsten and projector flutter.
